Protection of personal data and the protection of privacy of workers is an issue of big importance, especially as information technologies are more and more used by employers to monitor their workers, including their e-mail and internet use and lately by attempting to introduce drug and alcohol tests at the workplace.
The Act on Protection and Processing of Personal Data, No. 90/2018 applies this type surveillance. The Act has the objective of promoting the practice of processing personal data in accordance with fundamental principles and rules regarding data protection and privacy, and to ensure the reliability and integrity of such data. The Privacy and Data Protection Authority is responsible for monitoring the application of this Act.
